The toothy jaw and unusual crown of the new organism found in France are providing a whole new perspective on the evolution of reptiles. The fossil of the 83 million year old crocodile lizard ancestor was discovered by scientists and has provided significant clues to the survival of these scarce reptiles over the dramatic environmental changes of the late Cretaceous period and their evolution over the millions of years.
