Warner Bros. Pictures announced plans for a new "Lord of the Rings" film set to premiere in 2026. The working title is "The Hunt for Gollum," and the movie will be directed by Andy Serkis, known for his role as Gollum in the original films.
Director and Cast
In addition to directing, Serkis will also star in the film, bringing his experience from playing Gollum in previous "Lord of the Rings" movies.
Development Stage
Warner Bros. Discovery disclosed the upcoming project during an earnings call on Thursday. CEO David Zaslav shared that the company is in the early stages of script development for the film. The team aims to explore untold stories from the "Lord of the Rings" universe.
Focuson Gollum
While no plot details have been released, the title suggests the film will center on Smeagol's transformation into Gollum after being influenced by the One Ring.
