When Hanzla Wajid, an account executive at APCO, first arrived in the United Arab Emirates in 2011, the country immediately captivated his imagination. “Arriving in the UAE felt like stepping into a place where dreams come true,” he says.

“The skyline signals ambition, the streets pulse with energy, and the diversity around you makes it feel like the world has gathered in one place.” Even with the heat and the fast pace, he felt welcomed. “There’s a genuine sense of hospitality that makes the fast pace feel inviting rather than overwhelming,” Hanzla reflects.

His early years in Sharjah were defined by familiarity: the same school route, the same traffic jams, and cafeterias where friendships quietly took root. “It wasn’t glamorous, but it was home,” Hanzla says. “Those routines gave me stability in a city that was already moving so fast.”

The university expanded that world exponentially. Hanzla was suddenly surrounded by classmates from across the globe, each bringing their own perspective and story. “University forced me to grow up,” he recalls. “Late-night study sessions, group projects, and conversations with people from every culture shaped not just my education but my worldview. I learned how to collaborate, to listen, and to appreciate the different ways people approach challenges.”

Friendships became a key part of his life in the UAE. “The people I met taught me so much about resilience and perspective,” he says. “Working alongside colleagues and friends from different cultures didn’t just broaden my outlook—it helped me see the value of diversity in every aspect of life. These relationships became a foundation that grounded me while I chased professional goals.”

His career in PR and advisory reflects the opportunities the UAE offers to those who dare to dream. “The UAE has a way of opening doors you didn’t even know existed,” Hanzla explains. “It’s a place where ambition isn’t just welcomed—it’s celebrated. I’ve been able to take on projects that challenge me, collaborate with incredibly talented people, and actually make an impact in the work I do. That kind of growth isn’t easy to find anywhere else.”

The country’s pace posed its own challenges. “Everything here operates at a high speed—opportunities, conversations, even expectations,” he says. “At first, it can feel like you’re chasing a moving train. I learned to adapt, to observe, to ask questions, and to let the environment sharpen me rather than overwhelm me. Over time, that intensity became energizing, and it changed the way I approach both work and life.”

Today, Hanzla treasures the balance the UAE offers between ambition and belonging. “What I love most about living here is the way you can chase big dreams without losing your sense of community,” he says. “The energy is purposeful, but the warmth, respect, and hospitality make life human. That combination is rare—it’s what makes the UAE special.”

University shaped me. Friendships and work sharpened me. And somewhere between all of that, I became myself,” he reflects.
