New paid parking zones in Mussafah aim to ease congestion and organise busy industrial district traffic.

Authorities in Abu Dhabi have announced that paid parking will be introduced in the Mussafah area starting January 12, 2026, as part of efforts to improve traffic flow and manage high parking demand in one of the emirate’s busiest industrial and commercial hubs.

Under the plan, the first phase of the paid parking system will cover the M1, M2, M3, M4 and M24 sectors, marking a significant expansion of Abu Dhabi’s regulated parking network beyond the city island.

The initiative is being rolled out by Q Mobility, operator of the emirate’s Mawaqif public parking system, under the supervision of the Integrated Transport Centre within the Department of Municipalities and Transport. Authorities say the scheme will help reduce random parking, enhance traffic movement and improve access to industrial and business facilities throughout the area.

A total of 4,680 parking spaces will be activated in the first phase, including specially designated spots for people of determination, ensuring convenience and accessibility for all users.

Motorists using standard parking spaces will be charged AED 2 per hour, with payments accepted via the Darb and TAMM apps, SMS and on-site payment machines, offering multiple convenient options for drivers.

Mussafah’s transformation over recent years, with the growth of cafes, restaurants, schools and residential developments alongside its traditional industrial base, has increased demand for organised parking, prompting authorities to regulate spaces and boost the efficiency of the area’s transportation infrastructure.

Officials say the phased introduction of paid parking will be monitored and expanded in line with traffic patterns and local demand, aiming to support commercial activity while creating a more orderly and accessible environment for workers, residents and visitors alike.

The move reflects broader efforts across Abu Dhabi to modernise mobility solutions and ease congestion through expanded Mawaqif and other smart parking initiatives in key urban and suburban areas.
