Boy Dies In Sharjah Floodwater
Police Issue Safety Warnings After Tragic Drowning Incident Following Last Week's Severe Storms
A young boy has tragically lost his life after drowning in floodwater in the emirate of Sharjah, prompting authorities to issue urgent safety warnings to families.
The incident was reported to Sharjah Police at 7:05 PM on Wednesday, April 1. Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene immediately, but despite their efforts, the boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Sharjah Police did not disclose additional details about the child's identity or the exact circumstances surrounding the drowning. However, the force expressed its deepest condolences to the grieving family.
In a public statement, the police highlighted the hidden dangers posed by flood conditions. "Rainwater pools and wadis pose significant risks due to their uneven and unpredictable depths, as well as the presence of unstable muddy surfaces that can lead to sudden slips," the statement read.
Authorities are urging parents to take extra precautions and ensure their children do not play or swim in floodwater. "It is important to educate children about potential hazards, particularly following heavy rainfall," the police emphasized.
Residents who witness behaviour that could endanger children are encouraged to report it by calling 901 for non-emergency situations or 999 in urgent cases.
This tragedy comes as Sharjah remains one of the worst-affected emirates following last week's major storm. Earlier this week, the Sharjah Municipality was still engaged in clearing floodwater from main roads and key areas across the emirate.
The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the ongoing dangers posed by flash flooding, even after the heaviest rains have subsided.
