There’s a groundbreaking proposal set to roll out that could radically alter the way hundreds of millions of shoppers across America pick up their daily goods at places like Target, among other big-box stores. Customers can keep an eye on a new state law being considered in New York that requires any self-checkout kiosks to provide a 10 percent discount to any shopper. New York State Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas (D-Brooklyn) has pushed the new bill.
Lucas argues that when shoppers themselves perform the duties of scanning, bagging, and paying for their purchases - services which are normally conducted by paid employees of grocery and supermarket stores- they should be rewarded with those savings.
