Debris from an Interception Hits Building in Dubai
Authorities Confirm "Minor Incident" on Building Facade with No Reported Injuries Amid Ongoing Regional Tensions
Authorities in Dubai confirmed that debris from a successful air defense interception struck the facade of a building in the city center on Friday morning. The Dubai Media Office described the event as a "minor incident" and verified that no injuries were sustained.
The incident occurred early Friday, with the first official confirmation shared by the Media Office at 7:34 AM. Reports indicate that fragments fell onto a building located along Sheikh Zayed Road, a major commercial artery in the city. Images circulating on social media showed minor external damage to the structure, identified in some reports as the UP Tower.
Less than an hour after the initial report, residents in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi received emergency mobile alerts at approximately 8:15 AM. The Ministry of Interior urged the public to "immediately seek a safe place," stay away from windows and doors, and avoid open areas due to a "potential missile threat."
By 8:40 AM, a follow-up message was issued by the Ministry, stating that the situation was safe and allowing residents to resume normal activities while remaining cautious.
The interception is part of a broader defensive effort by the UAE against a series of missile and drone attacks that began in late February. On Thursday alone, the UAE Ministry of Defence reported the successful interception of 10 ballistic missiles and 26 drones.
Since the onset of these hostilities on February 28, the UAE’s air defense systems have engaged hundreds of targets, including:
- 278 Ballistic missiles
- 15 Cruise missiles
- 1,540 Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)
The Ministry of Defence reaffirmed its total preparedness to confront any threats to the nation's security. "The Ministry remains ready to deal with any attempts to undermine State security in a manner that ensures the protection of its sovereignty and safeguards its national interests," a spokesperson stated.
While the sophisticated air defense network continues to prevent widespread destruction, officials have reminded the public that successful interceptions can still result in falling fragments. Residents are urged to follow official channels for updates and adhere to safety protocols during active alerts.
