During a routine security check at Dubai International Airport, authorities intercepted a passenger from an Asian country attempting to smuggle 8.9 kilograms of marijuana. The alert was raised when officials noticed unusual density in the passenger's luggage.

Confiscation and Investigation

Upon manual inspection of the suspicious baggage, Dubai Customs officers discovered a powdered substance. Despite the passenger's claim that it was henna powder, further investigation revealed it to be 8.9 kilograms of marijuana. The seized contraband was promptly handed over to the General Directorate of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police.

Ibrahim Al Kamali, Director of the Passenger Operations Department at Dubai Customs, highlighted the important role of customs in deterring smuggling attempts across various entry points. Emphasizing the use of state-of-the-art technologies, electronic services, and artificial intelligence in their operations, Kamali stressed the necessity for increased vigilance due to the rising number of passengers arriving in Dubai. This heightened surveillance aims to safeguard the community against the trafficking of illicit substances.
