In a move that transformed the highway into a true “cyclists’ paradise”, families, casual riders and cycling enthusiasts pedaled through landmark routes flanking Dubai’s skyline.
One route offered a relaxed 4 km flat stretch through Downtown Dubai for those seeking a gentle ride, while a more adventurous 12 km path took participants past the Museum of the Future, the Dubai Water Canal and a view of the Burj Khalifa.
A special “Speed Laps” sector from 5 am to 6 am allowed experienced cyclists to push past 30 km/h on the open highway — a rare opportunity in the heart of the city.
The event also showcased the spirit of community, with groups of friends, school-age first-timers and avid cycling clubs joining in. One school team of Grade 12 students described doing four laps and raving about the fun and family support.
To ensure safe and smooth participation, road closures and extended public transport services were implemented. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) extended metro operations from 3 am to midnight to accommodate riders travelling to and from the event. Temporary road closures covered the stretch from the Trade Centre Roundabout to Al Hadiqa Bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road.
For Dubai residents, long-term expats and visiting cyclists alike, the event added a revived sense of urban adventure and connectivity. One group of 170–200 cycling enthusiasts shared their dedication to fitness, community and unity, and expressed gratitude to the city’s leaders for making such an event possible.
Ultimately, Dubai Ride 2025 delivered on its promise of turning a major arterial road into a vibrant river of bikes, with smiles, selfies and spinning gears setting a festive tone for the rest of the month’s fitness challenge. Participants left the course full of energy, motivated for more active events to come — and Dubai proved once again that it can rewrite its urban narrative, pedal-by-pedal.
