KHDA introduces streamlined dual-track quality assurance for Dubai private schools, resuming inspections in 2026-27.

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has officially announced the resumption of quality assurance visits at private schools across the emirate, set to begin with the 2026-27 academic year. The authority introduced a streamlined dual-track approach designed to evaluate educational standards while minimizing disruption to daily school operations.

Under the new framework, every eligible private school in Dubai will undergo one of two distinct types of quality assurance visits: a full inspection or a monitoring visit.

Full Quality Assurance Visits

The first category involves a comprehensive inspection carried out by a team of specialist experts utilizing the full UAE School Inspection Framework. Following these visits, a detailed report will be published, featuring an overall school rating. This rigorous process is mandatory for schools that have completed their third year of operation in Dubai, which will automatically qualify them for their first full inspection.

Monitoring Visits

The second option is a shorter monitoring visit, conducted by a smaller team of experts. Unlike full inspections, these visits focus on specific audit trails and key lines of enquiry identified through prior data analysis. Schools receiving this type of visit will be issued a concise report highlighting strengths and providing recommendations for improvement. Notably, no new overall inspection rating will be assigned during a monitoring visit.

Short Notice Protocol

A significant change in the new approach is the notification period. For both full inspections and monitoring visits, schools will receive no more than 24 hours' notice.

The KHDA explained that this short notice window is intentional, designed to ensure that the visits accurately reflect the everyday reality of school life. By reducing preparation time, the authority aims to capture authentic insights into teaching quality, student learning, wellbeing, and daily operational efficiency.

The resumption of these inspections marks a renewed focus on maintaining high educational standards across Dubai's private school sector, balancing thorough evaluation with the practical needs of school administration.
