Egypt is stunning — pyramids, pharaohs, and the Nile, sure — but it’s also deeply traditional, and respecting the culture will seriously elevate your experience.

✅ Do’s:
1. Dress modestly — especially at religious sites
Loose, breathable clothes that cover shoulders and knees are your go-to. For women, a scarf can come in handy at mosques.
👕 Think: linen pants, maxi dresses, long-sleeved shirts.
2. Greet with a smile (and the right hand!)
A warm “Salam Alaikum” goes a long way. Always offer your right hand when shaking — the left is considered impolite.
3. Ask before snapping photos
Especially when it comes to people (and definitely in local markets or villages). Some places may charge for camera use — be chill, not sneaky.
4. Bargain — respectfully
In souks and markets, haggling is expected, but do it with humor and patience. Don’t go too low or walk away aggressively.
5. Tip generously
Tipping (aka “baksheesh”) is a part of daily life — from bathroom attendants to tour guides. Keep small notes handy.
❌ Don’ts:
1. Don’t show too much PDA
Save the cuddles for your hotel room. Holding hands might pass, but kissing in public? Big no-no.
2. Don’t talk politics or religion
Especially around sensitive topics — best to avoid these convos unless you know the person really well.
3. Don’t enter mosques during prayer without permission
Non-Muslims can visit many mosques, but not during prayer time unless explicitly allowed — and always remove your shoes.
4. Don’t drink alcohol in public
Alcohol is available in tourist spots and hotels, but walking around with a drink in hand? That’ll get you side-eye.
5. Don’t lose your cool
Even if you're frustrated (hello, Cairo traffic), shouting or aggressive behavior is deeply frowned upon.
💡 Pro Tip:
Learn a few Arabic phrases. Even just “Shukran” (thank you) and “Afwan” (you’re welcome) will earn you massive points with locals.
