New Route & Station Changes Enhance Efficiency on Dubai Metro’s Red Line

Dubai’s Red Line Metro is getting a boost in commuter convenience with recent updates to routes, station names, and peak-hour services that aim to streamline travel across the city. Here’s everything you need to know about the enhancements and key features of the Red Line.

New Direct Route:
To ease congestion during the busiest morning and evening periods, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) introduced a new peak-hour route between Centrepoint station and Al Fardan Exchange. This service terminates at Al Fardan Exchange’s middle platform and is designed to offer more direct journeys for passengers who travel between these high-traffic stations.

Station Renaming & Updates:
One of the notable changes is station renaming. The former Al Khail station has been officially renamed Al Fardan Exchange. This renaming aligns with broader efforts to update route signage and make navigation more intuitive for both residents and visitors.

Route & Coverage Details:
The Red Line spans approximately 67 km and includes 35 stations, starting at Centrepoint in the east and extending to Expo 2020 and the branch to Life Pharmacy. It runs largely parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road, serving major districts, commercial hubs, and tourist attractions.

Interchange & Branches:
There are interchange connections with the Green Line at Union and BurJuman stations. Additionally, passengers can access tram services via stations like Sobha Realty and DMCC. The Red Line also has a branch service to Life Pharmacy.

Service Frequency & Travel Time:
During peak hours, trains run at higher frequencies. The new route helps distribute passenger load more evenly. A full journey from one end of the Red Line to the other takes around 70-75 minutes, depending on stops and waiting times.
