Scientists have sought over decades to find clear evidence that water at some time in the past formed the surface of Mars. The Curiosity rover has recently made a new discovery that has contributed an interesting puzzle to that puzzle. As the rover was driving through rocky terrain, they showed images of strange patterns of the minerals similar to spiderwebs scattered across the ground. These structures are not biologic structures, but they give good evidence that water in its liquid state at some point flowed through Martiania rock. The discovery provides scientists with new insights regarding the old climate of the planet and whether life existed on it in the past.
