'Pirates of the Red Sea': Kartik Aaryan Shares Pic with Johnny Depp

The 2025 Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah witnessed a moment that quickly became the talk of social media: Kartik Aaryan, the Bollywood star known for his comic-horror persona “Rooh Baba,” shared a surprise selfie with Hollywood legend Johnny Depp — and captioned it “Pirates of the Caribbean of the Red Sea: Jack Sparrow x Rooh Baba.” 

In the candid photograph, Aaryan flashes his trademark playful grin, while Depp appears in his signature beanie, sunglasses and cigar — channeling his iconic Captain Jack Sparrow vibe. The unplanned nature of the selfie, captured during the festival’s casual moments, added to its charm. 

The post instantly went viral. Fans from both Bollywood and Hollywood circles flooded the comments with excitement, many urging for a cinematic crossover between the two stars. “Captain Jack Sparrow and Rooh Baba together — yes please,” wrote one. Industry peers too weighed in: celebrated choreographer-director Remo D'Souza reacted with a string of red-heart emojis, while musician-actor Sophie Choudry responded with raised-hands and heart-eyes emojis. 

For Kartik, the moment adds to his already busy slate. He is gearing up for release of his next film Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, a romantic comedy directed by Sameer Vidwans, due on December 25. Beyond that, projects like Naagzilla — in which he reportedly plays a shape-shifting serpent — are also on the cards for 2026. 

But for many fans, the real excitement lies in that single frame — a spontaneous bridging of two worlds: the supernatural-horror comedy of “Rooh Baba” and the high-seas adventures of “Jack Sparrow.”
