Pro-Palestine Messages Headline the Golden Globes 2026 Red Carpet
Hollywood’s Awards Show Becomes a Platform for Political and Humanitarian Expression
The 83rd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night were striking not just for celebrated performances but for the bold political and humanitarian statements made on the red carpet.
A number of actors and filmmakers used their high-profile entrance to shine a spotlight on global issues, including solidarity with Palestine and a call to action on immigration enforcement in the United States. The messages, conveyed through symbolic clothing, pins and accessories, quickly became among the most discussed elements of the evening.
Mark Ruffalo drew attention with his attire, using the platform to highlight causes close to his activism history, including solidarity with Gaza and calls for humane immigration policies. Ruffalo, alongside Natasha Lyonne and Wanda Sykes, wore lapel pins bearing slogans like “Be Good” and “ICE OUT,” part of the #BeGood campaign protesting recent actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and memorializing victims of fatal shootings by ICE agents.
The “Be Good” campaign, backed by advocacy groups like the American Civil Liberties Union, aims to honour the memories of Renee Macklin Good and Keith Porter—both killed in separate incidents involving ICE agents—while urging compassion and accountability in immigration policy.
Pro-Palestinian sentiment was also visible. Comedian and actress Hannah Einbinder donned an Artists4Ceasefire pin on the red carpet, a symbol of support for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza that has circulated among creatives during awards and cultural events over the past year. Einbinder, speaking about her choice, framed it as a personal obligation to distinguish between cultural identity and political policy.
Beyond pins, fashion itself carried political weight. Palestinian-Jordanian-Canadian actor Saja Kilani, nominated for her role in The Voice of Hind Rajab, walked the carpet in a custom gown inspired by the traditional Palestinian thobe by Reema Dahbour, featuring tatreez embroidery that symbolizes cultural resilience and identity. Kilani said she chose the look to subtly reflect her heritage and the ongoing struggles faced by Palestinians.
These visual statements underscored a broader willingness among Hollywood figures to leverage the global stage of the Golden Globes to draw attention to complex and contested humanitarian issues, blending entertainment with activism in defining moments of the awards season.
