Sharjah just dropped big heritage news: the Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, announced plans to put Dibba Al Hisn’s Al Hosn Fort on the UNESCO list. And honestly, the timing is perfect—it just got a fresh restoration.
A Fort With Layers of History
The Al Hosn Fort isn’t your average old building. Its three interlinked floors trace back to different eras—Hermiz, Portuguese, and Al Qawasim. Each part got preserved with careful methods to keep both artifacts and visitors safe from weather damage.
More Restorations Coming
In a radio call on the “Direct Line” programme, Dr Sultan also shared that an abandoned square fort in Dibba Al Hisn will soon be restored. Plus, the area around it—like the markets and traditional homes—will get some heritage love too.
Why It Matters
This isn’t just about saving old walls. The move will boost Dibba Al Hisn’s historical charm, attract more visitors, and give locals a stronger connection to their city’s cultural roots.
