Starting next month, 3,162 Sharjah families with two or more members will see their monthly income raised to Dh17,500. This move comes under the directions of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, to help residents meet the “Decent Living” standard.
Big Budget, Big Impact
The updated allowance will cost the emirate Dh134 million annually, all going to families registered with the Social Services Department.
New Social Care Hub in the Works
Alongside the grants, a massive Social Care Complex will be built in Al Ruwaidat district. The 140,000 sqm hub will house:
-
A home for the elderly
-
A social care home for children
-
Mental health facilities (Wahat Al-Rushd)
-
A women’s protection centre
It will also feature a mosque, a gym, and plenty of recreational spots, all in one place.
