Sharjah Safari, the largest safari park outside Africa, opened its doors for the new season on Sunday, announcing the arrival of two rare animal births. The park welcomed its fifth African Savannah elephant calf, along with a pair of ring-tailed lemur twins—a first for the destination.

The safari, operated by the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), confirmed that its veterinary and nutrition teams closely monitored the elephant calf and its mother from birth. African Savannah elephants are considered a keystone species, playing a vital role in maintaining ecosystem balance.

The birth of the ring-tailed lemur twins is especially significant, as the species is listed globally as endangered. The safari highlighted that twin births in ring-tailed lemurs are exceptionally rare.

Alongside these new arrivals, Sharjah Safari also reported 184 bird and mammal births during the second quarter of 2025. The park is now home to 151 species, including giraffes, lions, rhinos, elephants, and rare bird species.

Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the EPAA, said: “The new season extends Sharjah Safari’s legacy of achievements, where every birth is a testament to the success of our breeding and care programs. These results highlight the ecological balance we strive to achieve and the tireless efforts of our dedicated veterinarians, nutritionists, and environmental experts.”

Al Suwaidi added that Sharjah Safari is not only a major recreational destination but also an educational hub, giving families and students opportunities to learn about biodiversity and conservation.

Sharjah Safari is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., offering gold, silver, and bronze ticket packages for visitors.
