Etihad Rail's passenger service is all set to launch in 2026, the news was confirmed by the railway network on social media.
People in the UAE have been anticipating this news since the plans for the passenger line were first revealed in 2021.
The news was revealed by an Etihad Rail delegation led by H.E. Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, in a meeting with His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, at Al Dhanna Palace.
In January this year, Etihad Rail revealed that the four passenger stations for the train will be Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah.
The station is Fujairah is located in the Sakamkam area, while the Sharjah station is located near the airport and University City.
The stations for Dubai and Abu Dhabi have not been revealed yet, but the Dubai station is expected to be near Jumeirah Golf Estates because the developer of that estate, Wasl, revealed on Wednesday that the station will be built within the development.
The passenger trains will travel at 200 kph and will carry up to 400 passengers. The journey from Abu Dhabi to Dubai will take 57 minutes, while a journey from the capital to Fujairah will take 105 minutes.
Etihad Rail is also planning to launch an electrified high-speed passenger service between Abu Dhabi and Dubai with its own set of stations, however, more details have not been revealed about that project, and its construction is yet to begin.
