In a landmark achievement for the United Arab Emirates' most ambitious infrastructure project, the Etihad Rail passenger station in Fujairah has officially become the first completed station on the national network. The completion marks a significant step forward in the country's plan to revolutionize inter-emirate connectivity and boost regional tourism.
The milestone was celebrated on Tuesday with a high-profile visit from Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah; and Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes' Affairs and Chairman of Etihad Rail. According to the state news agency Wam, the dignitaries toured the facility located in the Al Hilal area (Sakamkam) of Fujairah city, reviewing the services slated for passengers once full operations commence.
Footage shared on Etihad Rail's social media channels captured the striking exterior of the station set against the emirate's dramatic mountain backdrop, as well as its soaring interior and modern ticketing infrastructure. During the visit, Sheikh Theyab was presented with a sample ticket for a journey from Fujairah to Abu Dhabi, symbolizing the imminent reality of cross-emirate rail travel. The delegation concluded their tour by boarding a train departing the station, offering a preview of the future passenger experience.
Etihad Rail has confirmed that passenger services are anticipated to launch later this year. The initial phase of the network will connect Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Fujairah. Travelers can expect frequent departures on the Abu Dhabi to Dubai corridor, with the extension to Fujairah designed to significantly enhance access to the UAE's east coast and stimulate the tourism sector.
Projected travel times indicate a journey of approximately one hour between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and roughly 90 minutes from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah. While the precise timetable is still being finalized, the completion of the Fujairah station signals that the final pieces of the puzzle are falling into place.
Beyond the railway itself, the visiting dignitaries also reviewed progress on the Emirates Council for Balanced Development projects in Qidfa. These initiatives are part of broader efforts to revitalize and develop villages across the UAE, ensuring that infrastructure growth benefits communities throughout the federation.
With the Fujairah station now ready, anticipation continues to build for the day when the UAE's first integrated passenger rail network begins moving people efficiently between its major cities and scenic coastal regions.
