Bollywood legend Madhuri Dixit has landed in hot water after the first show of her USA-Canada tour in Toronto. The evening, billed as a grand dance and music celebration, reportedly started late, lacked the performance many fans expected, and pivoted to a talk-show format, sparking widespread criticism.
According to audience feedback and social-media posts, Madhuri arrived approximately three hours after the scheduled 7:30 pm start, turning up only around 10:00 p.m.
The delay alone had many fans already frustrated, and their disappointment only deepened when the reputed "Queen of Dance" opted not to deliver the high-energy performance they had anticipated.
Rather than launching into her signature dance numbers, the show transitioned into an interview segment with Madhuri. Fans and commenters noted that despite the promotional materials promising a concert, the evening lacked the structure and dance focus expected of a full-fledged performance.
Critics pointed to a missing homage to her late guru, Birju Maharaj, whose influence on her kathak training is well-known. One fan wrote that omitting his name and legacy from the event was “a missed opportunity” to honour the classical roots of her artistry.
Even the supporting acts and production values drew ire. Reports describe the opening performers as unfamiliar to the majority of the attending crowd, costumes that seemed out of sync with expectations, and choreography that lacked polish.
Despite the severity of the backlash, Madhuri and her team have remained silent, with no official comment or apology issued as of the time of writing. Her social-media announcement for the tour has had comments turned off, which only fueled the speculation and dissatisfaction among fans.
