'The Voice of Hind Rajab' to Premiere in Dubai on This Date

Cinema Akil, Dubai's premier independent arthouse cinema located in Alserkal Avenue, is set to host the exclusive UAE premiere of the Golden Globe-nominated docudrama, 'The Voice of Hind Rajab'.

This powerful examination of a devastating human tragedy will premiere on Wednesday, December 17. The premiere highlights Cinema Akil's ongoing commitment to providing a platform for impactful, globally significant cinema that contributes to vital conversations.

The 70-minute docudrama meticulously recounts one of the most heart-wrenching incidents that occurred during the war on Gaza in January 2024. The narrative focuses on the terrifying final hours of six-year-old Hind Rajab.

Hind became trapped in a car surrounded by her deceased relatives after their vehicle came under Israeli fire while they were attempting to flee the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood in Gaza City. The world’s attention was captured by the desperate emergency calls the young girl made from the car, begging to be rescued.

Directed by Kaouther Ben Hania, 'The Voice of Hind Rajab' reconstructs these agonizing events with chilling precision. The film utilizes the actual, harrowing audio recordings of Hind's calls for help to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). It features interviews with the dispatchers who stayed on the line with her, as well as her surviving family members.

The docudrama also sheds light on the tragic fate of the two paramedics, Yusuf Al-Zeino and Ahmed Al-Madhoun, who were dispatched to save her but were killed when their ambulance was struck upon arrival at the scene.

The film will be presented in Arabic with English subtitles, making this crucial story accessible to a wider audience in Dubai. By screening 'The Voice of Hind Rajab,' Cinema Akil offers viewers a stark and emotional reminder of the immense toll conflict takes on civilians, particularly children. The docudrama serves not only as a record of a specific, horrific event but also as a testament to the dangers faced by humanitarian workers in conflict zones.
