1971

1979
A free ecumenical zone known as Jebel Ali Free Zone.
1980s
First mall (Al Ghurair Centre, 1981), Dubai Duty Free (1983), Emirates airline (1985) and Jebel Ali Free Zone (1985) established.
1985
Emirate airline launched.
1990
Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid becomes ruler.
1996
Dubai World Cup was held for the first time that was a horse race game.
1999
 A hotel named Burj Al-Arab opened, which is the world's first Seven Star Hotel.
2000
 Sheikh Mohammed launches internet.
2003
 A very big and magnificent project was launched, under which the dubai and the world's tallest building was to be built.
2005
Population of Dubai reaches 1.5 million, up from 59,000 in 1967.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum becomes King of Dubai and also Vice President of UAE.

The credit crunch hits Dubai, pushing the emirate to the brink of bankruptcy and stalling many major construction projects.

Emirates Terminal 3 and Metro were launched to reduce road and air traffic.

Burj Khalifa was registered as the world's tallest building.

The Middle East’s first ever female train driver starts work on the Dubai metro in January.

The tallest hotel in the world opens on Sheikh Zayed Road, the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, and with it a sense of Dubai’s recovery and ambition to keep breaking records.

The establishment of the UAE Space Agency and the launch of a Mars mission is announced.
