Abu Dhabi Launches Comprehensive Transport Plan for 2025 F1 Grand Prix Week

The capital is set to welcome a major surge of global motorsport fans this weekend as 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix gets underway on Yas Island. To ensure smooth access and minimize traffic disruptions, Abu Dhabi Mobility — through its Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) — has unveiled a sweeping, multi-modal transport plan.

The plan mobilises at least 3,000 taxis, more than 80 dedicated public buses, and a fleet of autonomous vehicles, combined with AI-powered drones to monitor and manage traffic flow in real time. The 82 public buses will run on a circular route connecting key locations such as Yas Mall (Tryano Gate), Warner Bros. car parks, Yas Island hotels, entertainment areas and the race circuit gates — offering a convenient alternative to private cars.

In a demonstration of smart-mobility at scale, 15 autonomous vehicles will be deployed during peak hours (3 pm–10 pm) to transport spectators across designated routes on Yas Island. Fans can also access a broader autonomous-vehicle network — covering areas like Saadiyat Island, Zayed International Airport, Reem Island and Al Maryah Island — through apps such as the versions of Uber and TXAI.

To keep traffic moving smoothly, the ITC will activate a Traffic Management Centre that adjusts road signals, broadcasts real-time updates through variable message signboards, and deploys patrol teams to assist motorists. Support includes on-the-spot services like tire changes, battery recharging, fuel provision, and towing for broken-down vehicles.

Enhancing these ground-level efforts, AI-powered drones will monitor traffic conditions and detect illegal stopping in drop-off and pick-up zones. These drones will record incidents — including number-plate recognition of offences — and relay data to the central control hub for prompt action. The plan also includes real-time supervision of taxi parking occupancy to optimize service availability and reduce wait times.

The comprehensive transport initiative underscores Abu Dhabi’s commitment to hosting large-scale international events with efficiency, safety and innovation at the forefront. As hundreds of thousands of visitors descend on Yas Island for racing, concerts and other Grand Prix activities, the city aims to deliver a seamless, hassle-free mobility experience — whether by bus, taxi, autonomous vehicle, or under the watchful eyes of drone traffic monitors.
