Dubai has confirmed that government employees will receive a holiday on December 1 and 2 to mark the UAE’s 54th Eid Al Etihad, giving workers a four-day break when combined with the weekend. The announcement aligns with the nationwide celebration set for December 2.
The Dubai Government Human Resources Department released a circular noting that some entities will not be included due to operational requirements.
Essential Services Will Continue
The circular clarified that sectors providing essential public services—such as facilities operating on rotating shifts—are exempt from the full break. These departments can set their own schedules to ensure normal operations and uninterrupted service during the holiday.
This approach allows Dubai to balance the long weekend with the need to maintain key services for residents.
Sharjah Public Employees Enjoy Five-Day Break
Sharjah government workers are getting an even longer holiday. With the emirate’s regular three-day weekend (Friday to Sunday), the December 1 and 2 holiday creates a five-day break for public sector employees.
Students in Sharjah—both from private and public schools—will benefit from the same extended holiday.
School Holidays Announced Across the UAE
The UAE Ministry of Education confirmed that all schools nationwide will be closed on December 1 and 2. Classes will resume on Wednesday, December 3.
Students outside Sharjah will have a four-day holiday, similar to most government employees across the country.
