Dubai is changing the look of delivery bikes on the road — and it’s happening soon.

Starting end of December, motorcycles and e-bikes used for corporate delivery services will be required to carry front number plates, not just rear ones. The rollout won’t be overnight, though. The rule will be applied gradually as delivery bike licences come up for renewal.

Why Dubai Is Doing This

According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the move is all about better safety, stronger monitoring, and tighter regulation of the fast-growing delivery industry. It also brings Dubai in line with international best practices.

The decision comes after joint work between the RTA and Dubai Police, along with consultations involving both government bodies and private-sector companies.

What the New Plates Look Like

The new front plates will feature:

  • A gold background

  • Black lettering

  • A special code “9”, which identifies the vehicle as a delivery motorcycle

Each bike will be issued a single, unified number during new licensing, renewals, or if a plate is damaged or lost.

Who the Rule Applies To

This rule is only for delivery bikes used in:

  • Parcel and document delivery

  • Order management services

  • Rental delivery services

Private motorcycles are not included in this requirement.

Part of Bigger Road Safety Rules

This isn’t the first step Dubai has taken to regulate delivery bikes. Earlier, the RTA and Dubai Police also announced restrictions preventing delivery motorcycles from using certain fast lanes on multi-lane roads — all aimed at making roads safer for everyone.
