Dubai is gearing up to make history. On 21st January 2026, the Community Development Authority (CDA) will host the world’s largest unified virtual sign language class, part of the “Dubai Communicates in Sign Language” initiative launched in October 2025 by H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The event aims to set a Guinness World Record while promoting social inclusion and empowering People of Determination, reinforcing Dubai’s role as a global model for accessibility and innovation.
A Global Step for Social Inclusion
Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director-General of Dubai’s CDA, highlighted that the initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to building an inclusive city. “Organising the world’s largest virtual sign language class marks a significant milestone that reflects the UAE’s deeply rooted vision for an inclusive society,” she said.
The class will strengthen communication with the deaf community, raise awareness of Emirati Sign Language, and integrate accessibility into daily life across government and private sectors.
How to Join the Record-Breaking Class
Dubai invites universities, schools, government entities, private companies, citizens, and residents to participate. Every participant contributes to the world record while helping enhance awareness and inclusion for people with hearing disabilities.
Registration is open via the ‘Dubai Communicates in Sign Language’ website, which provides all instructions for joining the virtual session. Participants from across the globe are welcome to take part.
Leading by Example
The initiative aligns with Dubai Social Agenda 33, prioritizing the empowerment of People of Determination and ensuring a high quality of life for all community members. The CDA aims to integrate sign language into everyday interactions and demonstrate Dubai’s commitment to inclusive, sustainable city living.
