Dubai has made history by hosting the largest virtual sign language class ever, earning a Guinness World Record with more than 6,000 participants. The achievement underscores the city’s push for social inclusion and accessible communication for all.

The initiative is part of the Dubai Communicates in Sign Language campaign, led by the Community Development Authority and guided by the Higher Committee for the Protection of the Rights of People of Determination.

Breaking Records and Building Awareness

The record shatters the previous benchmark set in India in 2017, which had 1,442 participants. The class drew government and private sector employees, as well as residents and citizens from all walks of life, coming together to learn Emirati sign language in a single, unifying session.

The event highlighted Dubai’s diverse, inclusive community and the shared responsibility of fostering a society that communicates accessibly for everyone.

Collaboration Drives Success

The milestone was achieved thanks to strategic collaboration between public institutions, private sector partners, and educational organizations. This partnership ensured smooth coordination, wide outreach, and strong engagement across the UAE.

More Than a Record

Dubai’s sign language initiative is more than just a world record. It aims to integrate sign language across public services through digital platforms, training programs, and innovative translation technologies.

The campaign trains employees across government and private sectors, ensuring that People of Determination with hearing disabilities can access services dignified, seamlessly, and independently. The goal is to make sign language a daily part of life in public spaces, positioning Dubai as a global leader in inclusion.
