A SpiceJet flight from Dubai to New Delhi landed on Wednesday — but none of its passengers’ luggage did. Flight SG-12, carrying 148 travellers, arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport around 5 p.m. Indian time, only for everyone to discover that the baggage belt stayed completely empty.

According to reports, the confusion started when passengers gathered to collect their luggage and realized not a single bag had arrived. “We were shocked to learn the entire flight’s baggage was still in Dubai,” said passenger Pratham Chaudhary.

Airline Blames “Overweight” Aircraft

Several passengers said airline staff claimed the plane had been overweight, forcing all checked-in baggage to be offloaded before takeoff — a reason many found questionable. “If the bags were already weighed, how did they realize it was overweight after takeoff?” asked another traveller, who said her luggage contained items worth over AED 5,000.

Passengers were told their bags would be flown in on the next available flight and were asked to fill out Baggage Irregularity Reports.

Not the First Time

Reports in Indian media noted that SpiceJet has faced similar complaints on international routes. The airline had not released an official statement as of press time.

The incident came just a day after another disruption, when SpiceJet’s Jaipur–Dubai flight was delayed for 14 hours before being cancelled, leaving passengers stranded without food or accommodation.
