UAE residents are in for a celestial treat as the Perseids meteor shower peaks over the country on Tuesday night, promising a spectacular display of up to 100 meteors per hour.

Known for producing bright fireballs that can outshine Venus, the Perseids will remain visible despite partial interference from moonlight. The meteor shower occurs annually between July 17 and August 24, with peak activity typically between August 9 and 13.

The Dubai Astronomy Group is hosting a special stargazing event at Ras Al Khaimah’s Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest peak. Running from 11pm to 3am, the event will feature telescope observations, constellation storytelling, and expert guidance for attendees.

The Perseids are caused by Earth passing through debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle, creating streaks of light as particles burn up in the atmosphere. In dark-sky locations, observers can see 60–100 meteors per hour at the shower’s peak.

Astronomy enthusiasts are advised to dress warmly, bring comfortable seating, and allow their eyes to adjust to the darkness for the best viewing experience.
