The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) confirmed that private sector employees in the UAE will get a paid public holiday on Thursday, January 1, 2026, to celebrate the New Year.
This follows the Cabinet’s approved list of official holidays for both public and private sectors.
Federal Employees: Remote Work Option
For federal government employees, January 1 is also a paid holiday. On Friday, January 2, employees can work remotely — except those whose roles require on-site presence, who are expected to report as usual.
Sharjah Public Sector Gets Four Days Off
Sharjah government employees get an extended break this year, with January 1 as a public holiday, combined with the weekend for a four-day holiday, resuming work on Monday, January 5.
The move ensures everyone can start 2026 with some well-deserved rest and family time.
