Sharjah has announced that January 1, 2026, will be a public holiday for employees of government entities, authorities, and institutions. Combined with the regular Friday weekend, this gives most public sector workers a four-day break, with offices reopening Monday, January 5.

Shift workers are the exception and will continue their schedules as usual.

UAE Federal Holiday Update

The UAE federal government also confirmed that January 1 will be a paid holiday, with January 2 set as a remote-work day for federal employees.

Celebrations Across the Emirates

The extended holiday sets the stage for New Year festivities across the UAE. Ras Al Khaimah is preparing a 15-minute fireworks show along a 6-kilometre coastline, featuring over 2,300 drones, pyrotechnics, and lasers. Organizers aim to set a Guinness World Record for the largest single firework ever launched.

Residents and visitors alike can expect one of the region’s most spectacular ways to ring in 2026.
