UAE Private Schools to Resume in-Person Classes

The UAE's private education sector is poised for a significant shift as major school groups move to resume in-person learning, with one of the country's largest education providers, Taaleem, leading the charge.

Following an announcement by UAE authorities allowing private schools, nurseries, and universities to submit requests for a return to physical classrooms, Taaleem has formally initiated the application process. The group, which operates 37 schools across the Emirates, aims to welcome students back for face-to-face learning starting Monday, March 30, pending regulatory approval.

The decision comes after the Ministry of Education announced that distance learning would continue for two weeks following the spring break, which began on March 23. The new directive allows institutions to apply for a return based on their specific operational and educational needs, with requests to be reviewed in coordination with relevant authorities.

This development mirrors a broader regional trend, as neighboring Qatar recently announced a gradual resumption of in-person learning, with full face-to-face classes scheduled to restart on Sunday, March 29.

To address safety concerns, the group emphasized that comprehensive emergency preparedness procedures are in place. These protocols include the ability to respond rapidly to changing circumstances and, if necessary, transition seamlessly back to distance learning. 

Crucially, the return to campus will not be mandatory for all students. Taaleem has committed to maintaining flexible learning pathways for families who are not yet comfortable with a full return.

All Taaleem staff have been instructed to return to their campuses on March 30, with further operational details and campus-specific guidance to be shared once official approvals are secured. The move marks a pivotal moment for the UAE's education sector as it navigates the transition from remote instruction back to traditional classroom environments.
