Starlink Launches in UAE as Elon Musk Expands Middle East Rollout

Satellite internet service Starlink is now officially available in the United Arab Emirates, marking a significant step in Elon Musk’s broader Middle East expansion strategy.

The rollout, operated by SpaceX, adds the UAE to a growing list of regional markets including Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain and Yemen, where the satellite-based internet service is now accessible.

Starlink delivers connectivity through a network of low-Earth orbit satellites, which Musk described as “thousands of satellites providing low latency high speed internet around the world”. The system is designed to serve areas where traditional infrastructure—such as fibre-optic cables and cellular towers—may be limited or unavailable.

Expanding connectivity beyond traditional networks

Unlike conventional internet providers, Starlink operates independently of local telecom companies. Users in the UAE can access the service without requiring subscriptions from providers such as du or Etisalat.

Instead, customers order the required hardware—including a satellite dish and router—directly from the Starlink platform, enabling connectivity even in remote or infrastructure-limited environments.

While the service is not expected to replace existing telecom contracts, it is positioned as a complementary solution, particularly for rural areas, remote operations, or emergency scenarios where network resilience is critical.

Pricing and availability in the UAE

According to Starlink’s official platform, subscription plans in the UAE start from Dh230 ($62.60) per month. The standard residential kit is priced at Dh1,545, including shipping, with delivery estimated between one and two weeks.

The launch reflects growing demand for alternative connectivity solutions across the Middle East, particularly in regions affected by infrastructure challenges or increasing digital reliance.

With the UAE rollout now underway, Starlink continues to expand its global footprint, positioning satellite internet as a viable option alongside traditional broadband services.
