The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has released the first Earth observation photos taken by its latest satellites, MBZ-SAT and Etihad-SAT, just in time for World Space Week 2025.
These satellites aren’t just taking pretty pictures — they’re boosting the UAE’s role in global tech and environmental innovation.
MBZ-SAT: UAE-Made and High-Tech
Launched in January 2025, MBZ-SAT is one of the region’s most advanced optical imaging satellites. It features high-res cameras, fast data transfer (images delivered in just two hours!), and smart navigation powered by a star-tracking system.
Even cooler — 90% of its mechanical structure was built in the UAE, marking a huge milestone in local manufacturing and innovation.
Etihad-SAT: Seeing Through Clouds and Darkness
Meanwhile, Etihad-SAT, launched in March 2025, is the UAE’s first Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite.
It captures images day or night, rain or shine, thanks to radar tech that works beyond weather limits.
Its multiple imaging modes — spot, scan, and strip — make it perfect for everything from detailed city mapping to wide-area environmental scans.
A New Era of Earth Observation
Together, MBZ-SAT and Etihad-SAT create a powerful Earth observation duo, combining optical precision and radar depth. Their data will help tackle real-world challenges like disaster response, agriculture planning, infrastructure monitoring, and environmental research.
Already, their first images have spotlighted UAE landmarks including Palm Jumeirah, Expo City Dubai, Saadiyat Cultural District, Hudayriyat Island, and Ain Dubai — offering a stunning new view of home, straight from space.
