The UAE will welcome the new academic year on August 25, 2025, with a major education overhaul, including the opening of nine new public schools and upgrades across hundreds of campuses nationwide.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Sara Al Amiri, UAE Minister of Education, announced:
“Nine new public schools will open, and maintenance work at 465 schools across the UAE has been carried out. This year, 25,345 new students will join the education system, supported by 830 newly recruited teachers and staff.”
To ensure smooth operations, the Ministry has deployed 5,560 school buses, distributed 46,888 laptops, and printed over 10 million textbooks for more than 1 million students returning after the summer break.
A major shift this year includes the cancellation of centralized examinations, which will be replaced by school-prepared tests beginning from the second semester.
Unified Academic Calendar
The Ministry of Education has also confirmed a unified academic calendar for the 2025–26 school year, applying to both public and private schools. Classes will run from August 25, 2025, to July 3, 2026, with private schools in Sharjah closing one day earlier.
Students will benefit from longer breaks under the new framework, including a four-week winter break in December, a two-week spring break in March, and three shorter mid-term breaks in October, February, and May.
According to the ministry, the 2025–26 calendar includes 178 school days divided into 14 weeks in the first term, 9 in the second, and 13 in the third.
The upgrades reflect the UAE’s long-term vision to enhance the learning environment, boost teacher recruitment, and strengthen overall educational outcomes.
