Air travel between the UAE and India is seeing major disruption after the Hayli Gubbi volcano erupted in Ethiopia, sending ash plumes up to 14 km high across the Red Sea toward Yemen and Oman.
Several carriers, including Akasa Air, Air Arabia, and Air India, have cancelled or delayed flights on affected routes. For example, SpiceJet’s Dubai-Kochi flight was delayed from 12:25 PM to 6:05 PM.

Airlines Update

Akasa Air: Cancelled flights to Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, and Kuwait.

Air Arabia: Cancelled Sharjah flights to Damascus, Kabul, Sohar, and Islamabad.

Air India: Suspended flights from Dubai to Hyderabad and Chennai, as well as routes to Doha, Saudi Arabia, and the US. Domestic flights in India also affected.

IndiGo: Diverted a Kannur-Abu Dhabi flight to Ahmedabad.
Emirates and Etihad Operations
Emirates and Etihad flights remain on schedule, though both airlines are monitoring the situation closely. Passengers are advised to check official websites for updates.
Etihad said: “Flights remain on schedule and will operate as planned. The safety of our guests and crew remains our highest priority.”
Passenger Support
Air India confirmed that ground teams are assisting affected passengers, including hotel arrangements and alternative travel options. The airline apologized for inconvenience, emphasizing the eruption is beyond their control.
