Today, the checkpoints between Abu Dhabi and Dubai were removed after the capital announced it will no longer need COVID-19 tests to allow travellers from inside the UAE to enter.

Abu Dhabi police reminded the public of "the need to continue to adhere to the precautionary measures to continue recovering from the pandemic".

A video broadcast by Abu Dhabi TV showed a convoy of vehicles going back to the capital, with emergency lights flashing from what had been the Abu Dhabi-Dubai border checkpoint in the Sieh Shuaib-Ghantoot area.

As of last week, just 0.2% of people tested were found to have the coronavirus.

The decision to remove checkpoints was made after the recent drop in COVID-19 cases in Abu Dhabi.

Since July 2, 2020, anyone driving into Abu Dhabi has had to show police at the border proof of a recent PCR test.
