Raising six kids alone is no easy task—especially when you're thousands of miles away from home. But for Dina Nira Blanca Monid, a widowed overseas Filipino worker (OFW) based in Dubai, the struggle was worth every second. Her story of strength, sacrifice, and success is now inspiring many.
A Mother’s Mission Abroad
Dina lost her husband to diabetes, leaving her to support their children alone. With no other option, she left the Philippines and worked as a domestic helper in Dubai. While many OFWs often move from one employer to another, Dina found stability—she has been working with the same kindhearted Lebanese family for over a decade.
Working with Gratitude
What made Dina’s situation a little more bearable was the generosity of her employers. They didn’t just give her a job—they treated her like family. According to reports, they often sent balikbayan boxes to her children in the Philippines, covering even the shipment costs. This consistent support made a big difference in Dina’s ability to care for her children from afar.
Two College Graduates and Counting
So far, two of Dina’s six children have proudly earned college degrees in Education. And she isn’t stopping there—her goal is to make sure all of her kids graduate. Her story stands as a reminder that behind every OFW are sacrifices many don’t see, but which transform lives back home.
The Bigger Picture
Dina's journey mirrors that of many OFW parents: sacrificing time with their families and enduring years of hard work abroad for the sake of education and a better life for their loved ones. But what makes her story stand out is the balance of grit and grace—the way she carried on alone, powered by love and supported by the goodness of others.
