Private sector employees across the UAE will enjoy a four-day paid holiday to celebrate Eid Al Adha 2026, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) announced on Monday. The holiday will run from Tuesday, May 26, to Friday, May 29, with work resuming on Monday, June 1.
Official Holiday Details
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), MOHRE confirmed:
“From Tuesday, May 26, to Friday, May 29, will be a paid official holiday for all private sector employees in the UAE, on the occasion of Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha.”
This decision aligns with the public sector holiday, which runs from Monday, May 25, to Friday, May 29.
School Holidays and Celebrations
Private school students in Dubai will enjoy a one-week holiday, as announced by education authorities last week. The break will cover both Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha, allowing families to celebrate together.
Significance of Eid Al Adha
Eid Al Adha, also known as the Festival of the Sacrifice, holds deep religious and cultural importance for Muslims worldwide. It commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. The festival coincides with the conclusion of the Hajj pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam, where millions of worshippers gather in Makkah to perform sacred rituals.
A Time for Family and Reflection
Eid Al Adha is typically marked by:
- Family gatherings and communal prayers
- Charitable acts and sharing meals
- Reflecting on faith and gratitude
With the extended holiday, private sector employees and students have ample time to celebrate, travel, and spend quality time with loved ones.
Plan Ahead
Employers and employees are advised to plan accordingly for the holiday period. Businesses may experience reduced operations during these days, so it’s essential to coordinate with employers to ensure a smooth transition back to work on June 1.
