UAE Confirms Eid Al Adha 2026 Holiday Dates for Public Sector

The UAE has announced the Eid Al Adha holiday dates for government employees, with public sector workers set to enjoy a five-day break this year.

The UAE's Federal Authority for Government Human Resources confirmed that the holiday will be observed from Monday, May 25, to Friday, May 29, 2026.

Arafah Day Confirmed

The dates indicate that Arafah Day, a significant event in the Hajj pilgrimage and an important day for Muslims worldwide, will fall on Tuesday, May 26. Arafah Day, marked on the ninth day of Dhul Hijjah in the Islamic calendar, holds immense spiritual importance. It is recognized as a public holiday in the UAE and is traditionally followed by three days of Eid Al Adha celebrations.

The Federal Authority also noted that, as with all Islamic holidays, the exact dates are subject to the sighting of the crescent moon.

Eid Al Adha and Hajj Pilgrimage

Eid Al Adha coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage, a time when millions of Muslims undertake the journey to Makkah in Saudi Arabia to perform one of the key pillars of Islam. The close connection between Eid Al Adha and Hajj underscores the religious significance of this period.

Moon Sighting Calculations

Earlier reports from Khaleej Times outlined astronomical predictions for Islamic dates surrounding Dhul Hijjah. According to calculations, the 29th day of Dhul Qadah will fall on Sunday, May 1, 2026, when the crescent moon signaling the beginning of Dhul Hijjah is expected to be visible.

The calculations explain that if the crescent moon is sighted on Sunday, May 17, Dhul Hijjah will begin the following day, Monday, May 18. However, should the moon not be sighted, Dhul Qadah will extend to 30 days, and Dhul Hijjah will start on Tuesday, May 19. These adjustments would impact key Islamic dates such as Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha accordingly.

In addition, the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology, affiliated with the University of Sharjah, shared predictions that Wednesday, May 27, 2026, is likely to be the first day of Eid Al Adha, based on astronomical calculations. They also estimated that Dhul Hijjah would begin on Monday, May 18.
