For many entrepreneurs, building a brand is about strategy, growth, and market demand. For Dubai-based founder Amreen Iqbal, it began with something far more personal: the idea that jewellery could hold memories.
As the Founder and Creative Director of Piece Of You, a personalised luxury jewellery brand, Amreen has built a business around the belief that every piece can tell a story. And much like her brand, her own story is deeply intertwined with the country she has called home for most of her life—the UAE.
Growing Up with the UAE’s Transformation
Amreen’s relationship with the UAE began early. She moved to the country as a child, at a time when it was still in the early stages of its remarkable transformation.
“I moved to the UAE when I was five, so many of my earliest memories are tied to this country,” she reflects.
Growing up here meant witnessing the nation evolve in real time—its cities rising, its ambitions expanding, and its vision becoming reality.
“Growing up here, I had a front row seat to how quickly the nation evolved,” she says. “What always stood out to me was the clarity of vision from the leadership.”
That sense of direction left a lasting impression on her.
“Over the years we have truly seen how strong leadership can transform a landscape and turn sand into gold,” she adds. “There was always a sense that something meaningful was being built here, and everyone living in the country was part of that story in some way.”
For Amreen, the UAE was never just a place she lived—it was the backdrop of her formative years.
When a Country Becomes Home
For many expatriates and residents, the idea of “home” evolves over time. For Amreen, however, the UAE has always held that role.
“The UAE has always been home for me,” she says simply.
Her childhood memories, her friendships, her education, and eventually her professional life all took shape here. But it was when she began building her own company that the connection felt even deeper.
“When Piece of You began taking shape here, I realised that my personal journey and my professional journey were both rooted in this country.”
It was in the UAE that her ideas found the environment to grow.
A Country That Encourages Ambition
One of the defining factors behind Amreen’s entrepreneurial journey has been the environment the UAE provides for ambitious individuals.
“The UAE gave me the opportunity to grow up in an environment that encourages ambition and entrepreneurship,” she explains.
The country’s diversity also played a significant role in shaping her creative perspective.
“It is a place where people from many backgrounds come together and still share a strong connection to the country they live in,” she says. “That diversity has shaped the way I think about design and storytelling in my work.”
Equally influential has been the country’s growing support for women in leadership and business.
“I deeply admire how the government encourages and supports women across every field, whether in business, leadership, or creative industries,” she says. “Seeing women pursue their ideas confidently has always been inspiring, and it gave me the confidence to build Piece of You and grow it here.”
Building a Brand That Holds Meaning
Creating a jewellery brand might sound glamorous, but Amreen says the real challenge lies in building something that people truly connect with.
“Building a brand that carries emotional meaning requires patience,” she says.
In the early days of Piece of You, she focused less on rapid expansion and more on understanding the emotional value jewellery can hold.
“The challenge was to create something that people genuinely connected with,” she explains. “I spent a lot of time listening to customers and understanding what the pieces meant to them.”
Those conversations shaped the brand’s identity and philosophy.
“Over time those conversations built trust, and that trust helped the brand grow.”
Today, Piece of You reflects a simple but powerful idea: jewellery becomes meaningful when it carries a personal story.
Finding Community and Belonging
After decades in the country, Amreen says one of the things she values most about living in the UAE today is its sense of community.
“What I value most is the sense of community,” she says.
Despite its multicultural population, she believes the UAE has created a shared sense of belonging among its residents.
“The UAE brings together people from many cultures and backgrounds, yet there is a shared respect for the country and its values.”
The country’s stability also plays an important role in people’s ability to build their futures.
“There is also a strong sense of safety and stability here,” she explains. “That allows people to focus on building their lives and their ideas with confidence.”
A Moment That Reminded Her Why She Started
One moment in particular captures everything Amreen believes about jewellery and identity.
At an event where Piece of You was showcasing its designs, a woman stopped by the display and picked up one of the brand’s UAE map necklaces.
“She became emotional while telling me why she wanted it,” Amreen recalls.
The customer explained that she had built her entire life in the UAE and saw the necklace as a symbol of her journey.
“She said the piece felt like a symbol of everything she had experienced here,” Amreen says.
That interaction stayed with her.
“Moments like that remind me why I started Piece of You,” she reflects. “Jewellery becomes meaningful when it represents memories, identity, and the place people call home.”
Three Words That Define Her UAE Journey
If Amreen had to summarise her life in the UAE in just three words, they would be simple yet powerful: home, opportunity, and belonging.
Together, they capture not only her story but also the experience of many people who have built their lives in the UAE—a place where ambition finds support, diversity inspires creativity, and personal dreams can turn into meaningful realities.
