The Sharjah Art Foundation has announced the grand reopening of Al Majarrah Park on 21 May 2026, transforming the space into a vibrant hub for recreation, culture, and community engagement. This reimagined park blends heritage, art, and modern amenities, inviting visitors to explore a space that honors Sharjah’s past while embracing its future.
Designed by the renowned artist collective SUPERFLEX in collaboration with Schul Landscape Architects (Copenhagen) and KWY.studio (Lisbon), the park draws inspiration from the 1963 map of Sharjah. Its uneven walkways mimic the shifting dunes of the desert, while louvred canopies—inspired by microscopic sand grains—cast ever-changing patterns of light, framing views of the night sky. Seven large-scale sculptures, created from everyday objects suggested by local residents, are embedded throughout the park. These works, ranging from games and technology to food and natural elements, serve as a new kind of “memory infrastructure”, highlighting intimate, lived histories rather than grand narratives.
Al Majarrah Park is more than just a green space—it’s a place for shared moments and community connections. Activity areas for all ages, including a running track, climbing nets, and facilities for football and basketball, encourage active engagement and neighborhood bonding. Meeting spaces and seating areas provide opportunities for relaxation and conversation, making the park a welcoming destination for everyone.
The project is part of the Sharjah Art Foundation Collection and has been supported by Sharjah Municipality and the Sharjah Department of Public Works.
Admission is free, with no tickets or prior booking required. The park will be open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. For more details and to plan your visit, visit sharjahart.org.
