The UAE’s Ministry of Education has announced that government-run schools across the country will switch to remote learning on Fridays throughout the holy month of Ramadan, marking a continuation of the “Ramadan with the Family” initiative for a second consecutive year.
Under the scheme, students enrolled in public schools will study from home at the end of each school week, giving families more time together and reducing travel demands during the fasting period. The move mirrors the adjusted routines that have become customary in the Emirates during Ramadan, balancing educational needs with cultural and religious observances.
Education officials say the initiative supports family values and community cohesion while maintaining academic progress. Though the learning will take place online, schools will still be staffed on Fridays, and parents may choose to send their children for in-person attendance, provided they handle transportation logistics.
The decision also aids worshippers wishing to attend Friday prayers with their children and relatives, as earlier prayer times and shorter school days have been widely implemented across the UAE this year to accommodate religious practices.
Ramadan is expected to begin in the UAE later this month, with officials confirming the transition to the holy month in line with the country’s traditional moon-sighting committee.
This education adjustment reflects broader efforts across the UAE to honour family time and spiritual dedication during Ramadan, while still prioritising student wellbeing and learning continuity.
