Twelve individuals have sustained injuries in the Ajban area of Abu Dhabi after debris from an intercepted missile fell to the ground, according to an official statement released by the Abu Dhabi Media Office on Friday.
The incident occurred shortly after the United Arab Emirates' air defense systems successfully engaged and neutralized an incoming aerial threat. While the interception prevented a direct strike on critical infrastructure or populated centers, falling debris from the destroyed projectile caused damage and injuries in the vicinity.
The media office confirmed that the injured group consists of six Nepalese nationals and six Indian nationals. Of the twelve victims, eleven suffered minor to moderate injuries and were treated promptly. One individual, a Nepalese national, sustained severe injuries and is receiving urgent medical attention. Authorities have stated that the condition of the severely injured person is being closely monitored.
The announcement regarding the casualties came approximately three hours after the initial report confirming that debris had landed in the Ajban region following the successful defense operation. Emergency response teams were deployed immediately to the scene to secure the area, assist the injured, and clear the debris.
Local authorities have urged residents to remain calm and follow official guidance as investigations into the specific nature of the attack and the extent of the damage continue. The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region and the critical role of the UAE's air defense capabilities in protecting its population and infrastructure.
