Dubai is getting a fresh escape from the city rush. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has announced Al Layan Oasis, a huge new desert attraction designed for laid-back weekends, outdoor adventures, and slow moments under the stars.

Spanning 10 million square feet, the project promises a calm desert vibe with modern comforts—think open-air cinema nights, lakeside walks, and camping without roughing it too much.

A Lake-Centered Desert Escape

At the heart of Al Layan Oasis is a 2.5-million-square-foot lake, surrounded by open spaces, trails, and shaded areas. The site sits about 50 minutes from Dubai’s city centre, making it an easy road trip for a quick reset from urban life.

The oasis is also set to become a key stop along Dubai’s caravan route, offering a quieter, more scenic desert experience.

Four Zones, Four Different Vibes

Al Layan Oasis is divided into four main areas, each with its own personality:

  • Camping Oasis: Features 100 caravan camping spots and a fully equipped visitor centre.

  • Gathering Oasis: Home to an open-air cinema, amphitheatre, outdoor theatre, and a food truck plaza.

  • Family Oasis: Includes 28 rest areas, kids’ play zones, and family-friendly facilities.

  • Recreation Oasis: Offers activities, retail outlets, and services set within a sustainable natural landscape.

Built for Walks, Rides, and Views

The oasis will have 14 km of walking and cycling paths, including 4 km of elevated tracks rising five metres above ground. These paths offer wide views of the area and connect with existing routes in Al Marmoom.

The plan also includes more native plants and shaded spots to keep things cool and comfortable.

Big Plans, Big Numbers

Al Layan Oasis is expected to welcome around 330,000 visitors every year. It will include 1,000 parking spaces and full infrastructure to handle steady footfall.

The project is part of Dubai’s Dh4 billion Blue and Green Roadmap, focused on sustainability, quality of life, and people-first urban planning.

Space for Private Investment

Dubai Municipality is also opening up around 365,000 square metres of investment opportunities within the project, giving the private sector a chance to be part of this new desert destination.

Sheikh Mohammed said the project reflects Dubai’s focus on sustainable development and creating spaces that put people at the centre—without losing the city’s signature ambition.
