Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced more than ten new traffic diversions across the city to facilitate the ongoing construction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line and maintain smooth traffic flow.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the RTA confirmed that a total of 11 traffic diversions have been implemented so far as part of the massive infrastructure project.

On October 22, the authority announced a new traffic diversion toward International City 1 as part of the Blue Line’s second construction phase. The entrance from Ras Al Khor Road into International City 1 has now been closed. Earlier in September, RTA also opened a major diversion near Centrepoint Metro Station, closing the entrance to the multi-storey car park from Airport Road.

The RTA added that additional diversions have been introduced to ensure a steady traffic flow while construction progresses on different sections of the line.

Once complete, the Dubai Metro Blue Line is expected to significantly enhance the city’s public transport network, connecting major districts, improving mobility, and reducing reliance on private vehicles.

Blue Line Route and Stations

The Blue Line extends in two main directions.

The first runs from Creek Interchange Station on the Green Line in Al Jaddaf, passing through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, before reaching International City 1, which will feature an underground interchange station. It will then continue through International City 2 and 3, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and end at Dubai Academic City. This section spans 21 km and includes 10 stations.

The second direction begins at Centrepoint Interchange Station on the Red Line in Al Rashidiya, passing through Mirdif and Al Warqa, and linking with the interchange station at International City 1. This section stretches 9 km and includes four stations.

The project also includes a maintenance depot and facility in Al Ruwayyah 3.

Community Awareness and Engagement

To keep the public informed, the RTA has launched a comprehensive public awareness strategy aimed at familiarising residents—especially those living near the project route—with the nature and timeline of construction works.

Updates on traffic diversions and project milestones are being shared regularly through media outlets and RTA’s social media platforms.

The authority has also conducted field surveys in affected areas and is holding community meetings to gather feedback and address residents’ concerns. The first such session was held in October for residents of Mirdif and Al Warqaa, where officials discussed the next phase of planned traffic diversions and project alignment.

As construction continues, the Dubai Metro Blue Line stands as one of the city’s most ambitious transport projects, promising faster connections and an enhanced commuting experience for residents and visitors alike.
