Dubai-based Indian expat businessman Dr C.J. Roy, chairman of the Confident Group, has died in Bengaluru, according to multiple Indian media reports. He was 57.

Reports say Dr Roy was found with a gunshot wound at his office in central Bengaluru on Friday and was later declared dead at a hospital.

Incident Reported During Income Tax Raid

According to Indian media, the incident happened on the same day officials from the Income Tax Department were conducting a raid at his office. Dr Roy was reportedly being questioned earlier in the day.

Police said a gunshot was heard inside the office premises in Anepalya, after which staff rushed in and found him injured.

Investigation Underway

Authorities confirmed that forensic teams were called to the scene, and standard procedures, including a post-mortem examination, have been initiated. Police have not confirmed whether a note was found and said the investigation is ongoing.

Officers are reviewing both Dr Roy’s personal and professional circumstances and are speaking with family members and associates as part of the inquiry.

Prominent Name in Business and Film

Dr Roy was a well-known builder and film producer. A UAE Golden Visa holder, he lived in Emirates Hills in Dubai and divided his time between the UAE and India.

He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. The news has sparked shock among Indian expats in the UAE and residents in Kerala, his home state, where he was widely known.
