Get ready to ditch traffic jams—Bloomberg reports Dubai’s new underground transit system, the Dubai Loop, could start carrying passengers as early as 2026. Announced by Elon Musk in February 2025, the project is designed to be fast, efficient, and weather-proof, giving city commuters a futuristic alternative to the packed roads.

What’s the Dubai Loop?

Think of it as a 17km underground highway with 11 stations, built to carry more than 20,000 passengers per hour. The Boring Company, Musk’s tunnel-construction firm, partnered with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) earlier this year to bring the idea to life. The plan promises direct rides to destinations without the usual stop-and-go delays.

Why It Matters

Dubai’s streets can get brutal during peak hours. The Loop aims to ease road congestion by moving commuters underground, offering a smoother, faster ride while keeping city streets less crowded. Experts say station placement is key—high-demand spots with easy access will make or break the system’s success.

The Bigger Picture

Musk pitched the project as part of a broader plan to modernize transport infrastructure in Dubai. He envisions tunnels that don’t just move people, but also freight and utilities, faster and cheaper than traditional methods. If all goes as planned, the Dubai Loop could change the way the city moves—literally taking commuting to the next level.
