A series of important announcements from UAE authorities are taking effect throughout July, bringing new developments for residents across all seven emirates. From extended parking hours and school holidays to historic rail launches and digital payment reforms, here's everything you need to know.

1. Summer Break Begins in UAE Schools

Students across the UAE will be heading into summer vacation starting July 3, 2026, following the end of the 2025-2026 academic year. According to the Ministry of Education's calendar, this marks a nearly two-month holiday period.

In Dubai specifically, private schools will begin their summer break slightly later on July 6, as confirmed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). The new academic year is scheduled to commence on August 31, 2026, giving families ample time for travel and recreation before the next term begins.

2. Sharjah Extends Paid Parking Timings Until Midnight

Starting July 1, Sharjah Municipality has unified parking operating hours across the entire emirate. All paid parking zones in Sharjah city, Kalba, Khorfakkhan, and Al Dhaid will now accept payments until midnight.

Previously, zones marked with yellow signs had shorter charging periods compared to those with blue signage. Under the new system, all areas will operate under identical hours, simplifying enforcement and providing drivers with more flexibility during evening hours.

3. Etihad Rail Launches First Passenger Service

Historic milestone alert — Etihad Rail's highly anticipated passenger service officially began operations on June 30, connecting Abu Dhabi and Fujairah in its introductory phase.

Sheikh Khaled inaugurated the Abu Dhabi station on June 23, ahead of the formal launch scheduled for September 30, 2026. The inaugural route covers approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes journey time between the two cities. Demand was immediate, with tickets selling out rapidly for the initial two-day trial run.

Future expansion plans include:

  • September 30, 2026: Stations in Dubai and Al Dhaid open
  • December 30, 2026: Al Dhafra region stations become operational
  • March 30, 2027: Route completes at Sharjah station

4. Dubai Summer Surprises Returns With Record Prizes

Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) is back for another exciting season, running from July 2 through August 30. This 60-day festival features citywide sales, concerts, family attractions, restaurant promotions, and hotel deals.

This year marks the biggest prize lineup in DSS history, offering:

  • 12 apartments valued at over Dh50 million
  • 35 cars up for grabs through various raffle campaigns
  • 3kg of gold for jewellery shoppers
  • Dh500,000 cash plus a new car for one lucky winner

Additional highlights include Summer Restaurant Week with special menus at more than 60 restaurants, alongside the popular Dh10 Dish campaign participating across 700+ outlets during August.

5. UAE E-Invoicing System Pilot Phase Begins

The UAE Federal Tax Authority kicked off the pilot phase of the nation's e-invoicing system on July 1, initiating a phased mandatory rollout schedule. Businesses generating annual revenue exceeding Dh50 million will be the first affected segment.

The roadmap includes:

  • Late 2027: Business-to-government transactions added
  • January 2028: Full implementation across all business segments

This initiative represents a major step toward a fully digital tax infrastructure, aiming to improve transparency, streamline reporting processes, and strengthen regulatory compliance across sectors.

6. New Passport Services Provider for Indian Expats

Effective July 1, the Indian Embassy in the UAE announced that Alhind Tours and Travels LLC becomes the sole outsourced service provider for passport, visa, and consular applications nationwide.

The company plans to establish 16 dedicated centres across all seven emirates, including major hubs in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Fujairah. This transition affects more than 3.5 million Indian expatriates residing in the UAE. Previous contractors BLS International Services Ltd. and SGIVS Global will continue operations only until June 30.

These coordinated developments reflect the UAE's ongoing commitment to modernizing public services, enhancing transportation infrastructure, and supporting its diverse resident communities. Stay tuned to official government channels for further updates as these initiatives progress throughout the remainder of 2026.
